Akali’s Backstory

Akali is from the land of Ionia. She is a member of the Kinkou, born in the ranks of these self-appointed keepers of Ionia’s sacred balance. Her mother is the renowned Fist of Shadow. These keepers walk the spirit and material realms, keeping the peace, intervening with force when needed.

These keepers are trained in the ways of the Kinkou in their youth. Akali was taught by Kennen.  He taught her many shuriken techniques and taught her how to be quick and agile over being strong. Akali soaked up this knowledge and wanted to follow in her parent’s path.

The Great Master Kusho’s son, Shen, another League of Legends champion, is the Kinkou’s appointed successor.

After some time, the order found itself divided.Shen Akali Kennon Zed

Zed, has returned to transform the Kinkou to his Order of Shadow. Akali flees into the mountains along with her mother, Shen, Kennen and some other members of Kinkou when things get violent.

Shen becomes the new successor to the Kinkou and wants to rebuild the keepers original philosophies.

Akali turns 14 and enters her Kinkou training formally in order to succeed her mother as the new Fist of Shadow. She becomes a skilled fighter, mastering the kama and kunai, a handheld sickle and throwing dagger. She does not possess any magical abilities, but is skilled enough to do just fine in battle without them.

Her mother is able to step down and Akali becomes the new Fist of Shadow.

During the Noxian invasion of Ionia, the Kinkou and the Order of Shadow come to an uneasy accord. Akali sees her homeland suffer as a result of this. Akali recognizes the Kinkou needs to do more than Shen is willing to. He is unable to do what is necessary for their people.

She leaves the order and starts to take down Ionia’s enemies her way. Akali has been trained as an assassin and intends to be an assassin, although she walks this path alone.

A short story about Akali

Akali’s Abilities

Akali is an assassin. She is usually played in the Mid Lane. She is a mixed damage champion, which means her abilities use both magic damage and attack damage.

Every champion in League of Legends has a passive and 4 abilities which are used by pressing “Q”, “W”, “E”, and “R” on a keyboard during game play. “R” is considered an ultimate ability and is usually the most powerful ability. Each ability has a cool down, which means you have to wait some time before you can cast it again.

Most champion’s abilities use mana, however, Akali’s abilities are not constrained by mana. Each time she casts an ability she uses energy. When your energy bar is filled up, you will have to wait for your energy to deplete in order to cast again.

Passive – Assassin’s Mark. When Akali uses an ability on an enemy champion, a ring of energy appears around the targeted enemy. Akali gains movement speed when she moves towards the ring, and when she enters that ring, her next auto attack is empowered with bonus range and damage.

Q – Five Point Strike. When you use this ability, Akali throws out five kunai. This damages the enemy it hits and is based on her bonus attack damage, ability power and slowing.Kama and Kunai - Akali's weapons

W – Twilight Shroud. This ability drops a cover of smoke and gives Akali movement speed. When Akali is inside the shroud, she becomes invisible to the enemy. When she attacks or uses an ability within the smoke she will briefly be revealed.

E – Shuriken Flip. Akali flips backward while firing a shuriken forward which deals magic damage to enemies. The first enemy hit is marked which allows this ability to be re-cast. She can also mark her twilight shroud. When re-cast, Akali dashes to the marked target or her marked shroud, dealing additional damage to the marked target.

R – Perfect Execution. This is Akali’s ultimate ability. When cast she will leap in a direction, which damages any enemy she hits. This ability can also be re-cast. On re-cast she dashes again, executing all enemies she strikes.

How To Play Akali

Akali is a great champion to play in the mid lane. She is a high damaging assassin that can easily carry games when mastered. She is difficult to play at first and requires a lot of practice.

When starting out, start with Q and use it to last hit.  Try to hit your opponent as well.  If you do hit them, move outside the circle and then try to auto attack them.  This is how your passive works.

At level 2, take your W.  Use it when attacking to make it hard for the enemy to attack you.  You can also use it when you need more energy because it will give you more energy.

Take your E at level 3.  Here is where it gets fun.  Try to land your first E on the enemy.  Hit it again and use your Q quickly to hit them.  Then lay down your W and move out of the circle to get your passive.  Then auto attack the enemy and use your shroud to get away quickly.

Level 6, take your R.  Adding this to your combo would be to use your R first.  Then use your E, Q, second E and W to get the enemy low.  Use your second R to finish the enemy off when they are low.

During team fights, look for enemies that you can take down quickly and easily. How To Play Akali

Tips And Tricks

In order to survive in lane as Akali, you need to ward around your lane. Early on she is weak against early attacks. Until you have your shroud and dashes, you have no way to escape. As soon as you have access to all of your abilities, that is when you can get aggressive.

Make sure you land your skill shots in order to maximize your damage output. Pulling off a combo requires hitting your dashes and marks.

During team fights look for an enemy that you can easily take down. This may mean you have to sneak around during the fight. Use the jungle in order to dash to the enemy undetected and use your burst damage to take them down.

Akali’s abilities use both magic damage and attack damage. Look for items that boost your abilities with both magic and attack damage. Items that heal you on damaging enemies are also good to have.

Do not be afraid to use your W often. Using your W will give you more energy when you are low on it, which allows you to use your abilities more.

How To Play Akali As An Assassin

Assassin’s are fun to play in League of Legends. You have high burst damage when you use all of your abilities correctly. Look for opportunities to assassinate the enemy team’s high damage carries. Try to go for the attack damage carry or the magic damage carry. Removing them quickly from team fights will allow your team to win team fights.

This skill can be tough to master. Even though you have high burst damage, you can be easily taken down if you get caught. Your goals should be to get in and out of fights quickly, just like an assassin.

  1. Well Well Well! Hey there! Thanks for sharing this one.I think that the Akali rework is really healthy for the game. Overall, I feel like the old Akali lacked identity and was a champion that only a couple of people played. She was never good enough for pro play, but after a week of playing, it feels really good to go against and play as Akali.
