Aphelios’ Backstory

Aphelios was born during a rare lunar convergence in the land of Targon. This lunar convergence happens when the physical moon is eclipsed by its reflection in the spirit realm. Aphelios and his twin sister, Alune, were celebrated as children of destiny by the Lunari faith.

Alune was blessed with the gift of magic, while Aphelios was blessed physically like the moon of stone. They grew up together around a faith of mystery, reflection and discovery.

The Solari ruled Targon and considered the Lunari to be heretics. They drove them into hiding. The Lunari were forced to dwell in shadows, hiding from the Solari.

Aphelios was sent on dangerous mission in order to protect the Lunari. Alune trained separately as a seer. She learned to use her magic to reveal hidden pathways and truths by the moon’s light. Soon she had to leave the temple where her and Aphelios were raised.

Separated, Aphelios began to doubt his ways and where he belonged. The Temple

Searching for answers, he went on a ceremonial journey into the darkness where the Lunari could discover their paths. Following the moon’s light to a pool, he discovered rare noctum flowers blooming under the surface. These flowers were poisonous, but could be distilled into a liquid that would open the drinker’s eyes to the night’s power.

When Aphelios drank this liquid, he was numbed to everything but the pain inside.

A short time later, an ancient temple, the Marus Omegnum, phased from the spirit realm to the mortal realm. Lunari from all over gathered to witness this power shift.

This fortress accepted only one occupant, usually gifted in magic, everytime it appeared. Alune was guided to this temple.

As the fortress appeared, the Lunari was discovered and an army of Solari came to attack.

The Solari fought viciously, even beating Aphelios, shattering his moonstone blades. He grabbed some of the noctum poison to consume.

Alune went deep inside the temple as the battle raged. When she reached the heart, her full potential was unlocked.

The noctum connected Aphelios to Alune. As Alune’s power embraced him, she pushed magical replacement blades into his hands. Like the eclipse of their birth, they converged, mortal with spirit. The Solari fell.

Alune took herself and the temple back to the spirit realm, keeping it safe from the Solari. Through this temple, Alune could project her magic anywhere, especially through the poison in Aphelios’ veins.

Together, they are able to protect the Lunari from the Solari; Alune from the spirit realm, seeing what Aphelios sees, perfecting her arsenal of mystical weapons for Aphelios to use.

As the power of balance shifts, Aphelios and Alune are needed now more than ever.

A Story About Aphelios

Aphelio’s Abilities

Aphelios is one of League of Legend’s newer champions and is unlike any of the other 150 champions. Most champion’s abilities run off of mana and are used by pushing “Q”. “W”, “E” and “R” on a keyboard during game play.

This champion runs off of ammunition and does not have an “E” ability. Do not be fooled by this missing ability though. Aphelios is the most complicated and hardest champion to learn how to play. But once you master this champion, you can be unstoppable! Let’s talk about his abilities and how they work!

Passive – The Hitman And The Seer. Aphelios is able to use 5 Lunari Weapons that his sister, Alune made for him. He can only use two at a time: one main-hand and one off-hand. Each weapon has its own basic attack and ability. Using auto attacks and abilities uses ammo. Run out of ammo and the weapon is discarded, bringing the next weapon up to use.

Q – Weapon Abilities. Each weapon has a different activated ability and are used in order.Aphelios Abilities

  1. Calibrum – This weapon is a Sniper Rifle. It has a long range shot that marks its target and does a long-range follow-up attack.
  2. Severum – This weapon is a Scythe Pistol. When used, Aphelios gains movement speed while attacking nearby enemies with both weapons.
  3. Gravitum – This weapon is a Cannon. When used it will stun all enemies slowed by the weapon.
  4. Infernum – This weapon is a Flamethrower. The ability blasts enemies in a cone and will attack with your off-hand weapon.
  5. Crescendum – This weapon is a Chakram and will deploy a turret that will fire your off-hand weapon.

W – Phase. This ability lets you switch your main-hand gun with your off-hand gun, which replaces basic attacks and the ability.

E – Weapon Queue System. This is not an ability that you can use. It is only there to show you which weapon Alune will give you next. Weapon order is fixed during early game, but changes the longer the match lasts.

R – Moonlight Vigil. This is Aphelios’ ultimate ability. When used it will fire a blast of moonlight that explodes on enemy champions hit. It will also apply the unique effect of whatever main-gun is drawn.

How To Play Aphelios

This champion is tough to master. He requires a lot of practice in order to know how to pull off the best combos. You have to pay attention to how much ammunition you have for whatever weapon you have up and which weapon is coming up. Having each weapon’s ability learned is also key to success.

The way Aphelios levels up is also different. Instead of leveling up your abilities, you can choose from three things to level up, attack damage, attack speed, or lethality. Depending on your play style, build and even who you are playing against is going to determine how you level these up.

Tips And Tricks

Early game, focus on farm and zoning the enemy out with your sniper rifle.

Look to landing your stun when your Gravitum is up and don’t forget to place your turret down with Crescendum.

The only thing that Aphelios lacks is an escape tool. So make sure you don’t play too far forward in team fights.

It is also important to know what weapon you have in hand when using your ult. Your ult will proc whatever weapon’s ability is up.

For instance, if I land my ult with Gravitum in hand, I can proc the ability in order to stun the champion.

My favorite weapon is Infernum. It is a flamethrower and is a powerful weapon late game.

Practice Makes Perfect

Aphelios requires a lot of time to understand how to play him. He is super fun to play once you have his weapons down. I like how easy it is to use his abilities, but I have a hard time remembering what ability goes with what weapon.

Keeping track of what weapon is up next is also key to winning fights. It may be better to switch weapons depending on the situation, or let the next one come up naturally.
