Cassiopeia’s Backstory

Cassiopeia is from the land of Noxus, an empire always looking to expand. She is the youngest child of General Du Couteau among the Noxian noble houses. Her sister, Katarina, flourished under their father’s teaching, while Cassiopeia would follow in their mother’s, Soreana, footsteps.

It was General Du Couteau who expanded Noxus into Shurima and sent for his family to join him in the coastal city of Urzeris. Cassiopeia remained close to her mother and learned about politics, diplomacy, and subtle influences.

Soreana collapsed one day. She had been poisened by caustic venoms found in her hairbrush. Her father sent all the household staff away and Cassiopeia nursed her mother back to health. This forged a strong bond between mother and daughter.

When it was time to invade Ionia, the general took Katarina and Cassiopeia remained in Urzeris. Soreana told Cassiopeia that she belonged to a secret cabal, known as the Black Rose.

With Cassiopeia’s father gone, her mother’s real work could begin.Cassiopeia in Noxus

Cassiopeia grew into a beautiful woman, full of cunning and intelligence but lacked empathy. She used those around her as tools.

The Black Rose had Cassiopeia hunt down and eliminate those responsible for the poisoning of Soreana. Cassiopeia did so, leaving no trace of what she was doing. She began to raid ancient ruins in Shurima with the help of a mercenary, Sivir.

Upon hearing a betrayal by Cassiopeia’s father, Soreana feared the Black Rose were in jeopardy so she had Cassiopeia seek out the godlike power of the Ascended, found in Shurima.

Cassiopeia unearthed a long-lost tomb of the mythical Ascended with the help of Sivir. She knew she needed to dispose of all witnesses so she turned on Sivir, killing her with a knife. Before Cassiopeia could enter the tomb, an ancient stone guardian reared up and buried its fangs into Cassiopeia.

She was overcome by toxins and was carried back to Urzeris as her bode began to change. Cassiopeia locked herself in a crypt to finish the agonizing transformation. She was replaced with the lower of half of a serpent and the ability to spit poison.

Armed with this new power, Cassiopeia vowed to use this power for the Black Rose and her mother.

Story about Cassiopeia

Cassiopeia’s Abilities

Cassiopeia is a champion that is usually played in the Mid Lane, but I have seen her played as Support. This champion is difficult to master, so you will have to practice!

Every champion in League of Legends has a passive and 4 abilities which are used by pressing “Q”, “W”, “E”, and “R” on a keyboard during game play. “R” is considered an ultimate ability and is usually the most powerful ability. Each ability has a cool down, which means you have to wait some time before you can cast it again.

Cassiopeia’s abilities use mana. So you will have to watch your mana bar during the game. If your mana runs out, you will not be able to cast spells until it fills up.

Passive – Serpentine Grace. Cassiopeia gain Movement Speed as she levels and is unable to buy Boot items.

Q – Noxious Blast. After a brief delay, Cassiopeia blasts as area with Poison. If it hits an enemy champion, she will gain increased Movement Speed.Cassiopeia's Spells

W – Miasma. This ability releases several clouds of poison which slows and grounds the enemy. They also take a little bit of damage and cannot use any Movement abilities when in the poisoned area.

E – Twin Fang. Cassiopeia attacks enemies that deal increased damage if they are Poisoned. She is also healed for a percentage of the damage dealt and the cool down is reset. If her target dies from the attack, Cassiopeia will gain Mana back.

R – Petrifying Gaze. This is Cassiopeia’s ultimate ability. She releases magical energy from her eyes which will stun all enemies facing her. Enemies with their backs turned will only be slowed.

How To Play Cassiopeia

Cassiopeia is a tricky champion to master. Her Q, W and R are skill shots. In order to win trades you have to land your poison. It is also important to note that her damage is over time.

Because of her passive, you are unable to buy boots. This is not a problem because her Movement Speed does scale nicely as she levels. Also, if you land your Q, she will gain even more Movement Speed.

In lane, I start with Q. This ability has a delay before it goes off. Once you get a feel for the delay, use it to poke the enemy and last hit minions.

Get your E next. Your Q and E go really well together and are the bulk of your damage. Poison the enemy with your Q and then immediately use your E on them. When an enemy is poisoned and you attack with E, the cool down on E is reset, meaning you can cast it again.

Poison the enemy with Q and then use your E in quick succession to damage the enemy.

Get your W next. When used, enemies are not able to use any ability or spell that gives them movement and are slowed. It is a good way to keep the enemy close while damaging with your E.

Pay attention to the enemies position to you when trying to land your R. It will stun those facing you, but only slow enemies facing away from you. Catch the enemies facing you by surprise by landing it quickly so they cannot face away from you. You can use it to slow down enemies trying to escape and use your other skills to keep them slowed.

Tips And Tricks

Cassiopeia is tricky to master. Practice playing her in order to get a feel for how her abilities work.

Always try to poison the enemy and keep them poisoned so you can use your E as much as possible. If the enemy is poisoned, your E is like an empowered auto attack.

Buy items that boost magic damage as Cassiopeia’s abilities scale off of magic damage.

Use your W to cut off an opponents’ escape route. Enemies caught within have to walk out of the poisonous fog. Use this to your advantage.

Cassiopeia As Support

Cassiopeia sometimes makes a great Support pick.

When playing her as Support, poke with your Q and E. Use your W to slow down the enemy and cut off escape routes.

In team fights look for using your R in order to stun as many opponents as you can.

Always ward around you and your team and help secure objectives.

  1. I think this posts is pretty neat. I have actually played League of Legends since season 3 which was 8 years ago now. I’ve reached diamond before and am very familiar with the game. I love the premise of this website to help new players. I am unsure of your experience in LoL but appreciate your aspirations. The video you linked of Cassiopeia is from like season 2(EXTREMELY OLD AND OUTDATED) so I’d recommend updating that. Otherwise good work and keep it up!

    • Thanks for the comment!  I know the video is outdated, but Riot does not have an updated one 🙁 I would love for them to create an updated version!  She has changed, but not that much as far as animation goes.  Only her W is different now.  Instead of casting in a circle it is a large semi-circle.  Thanks so much for the comment!
