Darius and his brother, Draven, grew up in the port city of Basilich in the region of Noxus as orphans. Darius struggled to provide for them both, often fighting with anyone who threatened him and his little brother.
Basilich was seized by the Noxian empire and the commander Cyrus came across the brothers and saw their strength and defiance. Cyrus took them in and the two brothers entered the ranks of the warhost. Over the years, they fought in many campaigns or conquest and crushed any opposition to the throne.
Within the Noxus empire, anyone could rise to power no matter their background and Darius was fueled by this knowledge. He rose through the ranks, refusing to take any step backwards. One battle ended in victory, even though Darius and his men were far outnumbered.
Because of his ruthless, he became senior command of his own battalion, which attracted recruits. He only accepted the strongest into his command.
After taking hold of the defiant cloud-fortresses of the Varju, Darius was named the Hand of Noxus by the Emperor himself, Boram Darkwill. Darkwill ordered Darius and his warhosts into the Freljord to finally take over the land.
Years of fighting ended in an icy stalemate. Darius narrowly survived numerous assassination attempts and capture by the Winter’s Claw. He fled back to Noxus only to find the emperor dead, killed in a coup by Jericho Swain. Many, including Draven, had supported this move.
Many expected Darius to retaliate as a supporter of Darkwill, but Darius had known and even respected general Swain for years. He was prepared to follow Swain, but this new emperor had other ideas.
Swain created the Trifarix, three individuals that would rule Noxus together. Darius accepted his place in the Trifarix and has vowed to create a new force, the Trifarian Legion, to push the borders of Noxus even further.
Darius is a champion that is usually played in the Top Lane. This champion takes a little bit of practice to master. It is a champion that is neither difficult nor easy.
Every champion in League of Legends has a passive and 4 abilities which are used by pressing “Q”, “W”, “E”, and “R” on a keyboard during game play. “R” is considered an ultimate ability and is usually the most powerful ability. Each ability has a cool down, which means you have to wait some time before you can cast it again.
Darius’s abilities use mana. So you will have to watch your mana bar during the game. If your mana runs out, you will not be able to cast spells until it fills up.
Passive – Hemorrhage. Each of Darius’s auto attacks and abilities cause the enemy to bleed for physical damage for 5 seconds. This passive will stack up to 5 times.
Q – Decimate. Darius uses his axe to swing in a wide circle. Enemies hit by the blade take more damage than those hit by the handle. He will also heal based on how many enemy champions and large monsters that are hit by the blade.
W – Crippling Strike. When you use this ability, Darius’s next attack strikes an enemy’s crucial artery. Their Movement Speed is slowed as they bleed out.
E – Apprehend. This ability has a passive. Darius’s physical damage ignores a percentage of his target’s Armor. When this ability is used, Darius grabs enemy’s with his axe’s hook and pulls them to him.
R – Noxian Guillotine. This is Darius’s ultimate ability and works with his passive. He will leap to an enemy causing damage which deals true damage. The damage is increased for each stack of Hemorrhage. If the ability kills the enemy target, the cool down will be refreshed for a few seconds.
How To Play Darius
Darius is a strong champion to play in the Top Lane. If you stack up your auto attacks and abilities, you can easily kill just about anyone early game.
Start with Q in lane. You will be able to out sustain your enemy if you heal off of your Q. The healing happens if you hit units towards the end of the circle it creates on cast. Work on landing this ability and you will heal each time.
Get your E next in order to draw the enemy in while landing auto attacks and than your Q when they are running away. If you haven’t killed them by now, the stacks on your passive might finish them off.
When you get your W you will be able to stack up your passive even more.
Having your R will round out your combo. First, grab an enemy with E, use your auto attacks and W to fully stack your passive. Use Q if they are trying to get away and you need more stacks. At full stacks, use your R and it will finish them off.
Tips And Tricks
The way Darius’s passive works is simple. Auto attack and land your abilities as much as you can to fully stack your passive. The enemy will lose a lot of HP each time you do this.
Usually you can all in level 2. Grab the enemy with E, land your autos and heal with your Q. The enemy will have a hard time surviving or will have to burn a Summoner Spell.
Your R will reset if you kill the enemy with it. Wait to use it until you know it will finish the enemy off, than use it again another enemy if any are around.
There is a slow on your W and E. Use them in order to slow the enemy down.
Darius benefits from tanky items. Build health, armor and magic resist so you can survive team fights better while dishing out damage.
Darius and Draven Interaction
Because Darius and Draven are brothers, there is an interaction between the two during game play. Get them together and see what they say to each other!
I think Garen and Darius also have an interaction but I do not know for sure. Give it a try and see if they do!
