Garen’s Backstory

Garen was born into the Crownguard family with his sister Lux in Demacia. His father, Pieter, was a decorated military officer and his aunt Tianna was Sword-Captain of the elite Dauntless Vanguard. They were both greatly respected by King Jarvan III.

Since the kingdom of Demacia had risen from the ashes of the Rune Wars, they have seen centuries of conflict. One of Garen’s uncles told him and Lux about his tales outside the city walls. Their uncle warned them of the rogue mages that would undoubtedly end this time of peace.

Before Garen turned 11, this uncle was killed by a mage. Seeing the pain this brought to his family and sister, Garen vowed to never let magic into Demacia.Garin in Demacia

At just 12 years old, Garen left his home and joined the military. As a new recruit, Garen was trained in the art of war alongside Jarvan IV. The two became fast friends.

By the time he Garen turned 18, he had played key roles in a few major battles. It was clear that Garen was destined for greatness.

King Jarvan III honored Garen himself before the royal court. His aunt Tianna recommended Garen to join the ranks of the Dauntless Vanguard.

Returning home, Garen noticed a change in his sister Lux. He suspected her to have magical powers, though he did not want to dwell on this possibility.

Garen joined the ranks of the Dauntless Vanguard and began to train twice as hard. He was even nominated for Sword-Captain after the current one fell in battle.

He stands in defense to his homeland and is the very embodiment of all that Demacia stands for.

A story about Garen

Garen’s Abilities

Garen is a champion that is best played in the Top Lane. This champion is very easy to play. I would recommend making Garen one of the first champions you play.

Every champion in League of Legends has a passive and 4 abilities which are used by pressing “Q”, “W”, “E”, and “R” on a keyboard during game play. “R” is considered an ultimate ability and is usually the most powerful ability. Each ability has a cool down, which means you have to wait some time before you can cast it again.

Garen’s abilities do not use mana. His abilities are only constrained by cool downs.

Passive – Perseverance. When Garen has not been attacked by enemies for some time, he will regenerate a percentage of his total health each second.Garen - Demacian Justice

Q – Decisive Strike. This ability gives Garen a burst of movement speed and he will break free of all slows. His next attack will deal more damage and silence the enemy, which means they will not be able to cast an ability for a few seconds.

W – Courage. There is a passive with this ability which causes Garen to increase his armor and magic resist each time he last hits an enemy. When you use this ability, Garen gains a shield and tenacity (the ability to move through units) and takes less damage.

E – Judgment. Garen will rapidly spin his sword around his body which will deal physical damage to all surrounding enemies.

R – Demacian Justice. This is Garen’s ultimate ability. It will send down the might of Demacia on an enemy target in the attempts to execute them.

How To Play Garen

How To Play Garen

Garen is a great champion to play in the Top Lane. He is good at blocking damage with his W and healing up with his passive.

In lane, take Q first and use it to last hit minions or bully your opponent. You can use Garen’s abilities as much as you need to because they do not cost any mana to use.

Take E next. Your main combo is to Q the enemy and use E. The enemy will not be able to get away while you are spinning on them.

Get your W next and use it before you Q and E the enemy. This will help you take less damage while you rush your opponent.

At level 6 take your ultimate ability. The way your R works is the less health your opponent has, the more damage it will do. So get the enemy low enough to finish off with your R before you use it.

Garen’s full combo is to use your W, Q your target, use E and then R when they are low enough to execute. Repeat this as many times as needed.

Tips And Tricks

Garen is great at being a bully in lane. Use your Q often in order to damage the enemy and silence them.

Use your W to take reduced damage.

If you are low in health, stay out of the fight for a little bit until you get healing from your passive.

Q gives you a speed boost, so use this ability to get closer to the enemy or to run away. Try to use your Q on enemies when they are using abilities that you can interrupt, like Miss Fortune’s or Shen’s ultimate ability.

Make sure you use your E in the middle of a fight. You will deal damage to all enemies around you.

Only use your R on targets with low enough health to execute. Using R on an enemy with full health will do very little damage.

Interactions In The Game

Because Garen and Lux are sisters in the back lore, they have an interaction in game. Get them close together and see what they have to say to each other!

  1. How to play Garen the info is great but the weird adds that are randomly in there that has nothing to do with your game is strange. I’m not sure how to fix that part outside of maybe finding a way to tie them into the content or move them near the end of your gaming.  The St. Jude hospital video well it needs to be brought to awareness maybe a page just for supporting . It really adds nothing to what you are talking about , How ever a great topic as a whole on its own. I really wish you the best and the game looks like a lot of fun.

    • I don’t have any control over the ads, and have no idea who is going to see what, so sorry about that!  Google takes where you have been and tailors ads to you regardless of what content I am writing about.  Maybe you had looked at a page about St. Jude or donated?

I’m glad you liked the article though!
