Kalista’s Backstory

Kalista used to live in a now forgotten kingdom. She was the king’s niece as well as a general. Living by a strict code of honor, she served the throne with utmost loyalty.

The king had many enemies and one night an assassin tried to slay the king, but Kalista saved him. She had diverted the poisoned blade from the king but it sliced the queen’s arm instead. None could draw the poison from the queen’s body and Kalista was charged with the task of finding a cure.

Hecarim of the Iron Order took Kalista’s place beside the king.

As Kalista traveled, she learned of an island protected from the outside world by a shimmering mist. The inhabitants were said to know of the secrets of eternal life. Kalista set sail for these Blessed Isles on one last voyage of hope.Kalista - Shadow Isles

Guardians of the capital city of Helia let Kalista pass through the mists because of the purity of her heart. Kalista begged them to heal her queen, and the masters of the city agreed.

While the queen still breathed, there was hope that the Waters of Life would heal her. Kalista was given a talisman that would allow her to return to Helia and was warned to share this knowledge with no one else.

When Kalista returned to the queen, she was already dead. The king had gone mad, locking himself in the queen’s chambers with her body.

The king demanded to know what Kalista had found. Kalista told the king she had found a cure but it would not work on a dead body. The king could not believe this and condemned Kalista as a traitor, throwing her into prison.

Meanwhile, Hecarim persuaded Kalista to lead them to the Blessed Isles so the king could hear what the masters of the island had to say. Maybe then the king could find peace. Kalista hesitantly agreed and led them to Helia, the king in their midst.

At the city of Helia, the masters were stern with Kalista. The Waters of Life would not work on a corpse and told them to leave.

This caused the king to rage and commanded Kalista to slay any and all who opposed them. Kalista refused and asked Hecarim to stand with her. Hecarim drove his spear through her armored back instead.

As Kalista fell to the ground, the Iron Order pierced her body even more. A brutal battle ensued as those loyal to Kalista fought desperately against Hecarim’s knights, however they were outnumbered. Kalista watched them die as her life faded, swearing vengeance with her final breath.

Somehow, Kalista opened her eyes, filled with the dark power of an unnatural magic. Having no idea what had happened, Kalista saw that Helia had been transformed. The Blessed Isles had become a place of shadow and darkness, full of howling spirits now trapped for all eternity in a state of undeath.

Even though she has tried to cling to the memory of Hecarim’s betrayal, these thoughts have long since faded. All that remains of Kalista is a thirst for revenge.

As spirits are subsumed into her, they become one with the Spear of Vengeance.

A story about Kalista

Kalista’s Abilities

This champion is best played in the Bot Lane as ADC. Kalista is difficult to play at first and requires a lot of practice in order to be good with her.

Every champion in League of Legends has a passive and 4 abilities which are used by pressing “Q”, “W”, “E”, and “R” on a keyboard during game play. “R” is considered an ultimate ability and is usually the most powerful ability. Each ability has a cool down, which means you have to wait some time before you can cast it again.

Kalista’s abilities use mana. So you will have to watch your mana bar during the game. If your mana runs out, you will not be able to cast spells until it fills up.

Passive – Martial Poise. Kalista jumps a short distance with each auto attack. You are able to control where she jumps each time. This is why Kalista is hard to play at first and takes some getting used to.Kalista - Spear of Vengeance

  • Kalista also has the ability to make any champion her Oathsworn. Walk up to an ally that you want to make your oathsworn and hit the number 7 on the keyboard. This will make that champion her Oathsworn.

Q – Pierce. This ability allows Kalista to throw a spear that passes through enemies it kills.

W – Sentinel. There is a passive on this ability. Kalista gains bonus damage when Kalista and her Oathsworn attack the same target. When you use this ability you will send a soul out to scout out a path. This soul will reveal the area in front of it and alert you to any enemies it sees.

E – Rend. Each auto attack impales them with a spear. When you activate this ability, the spears are ripped out, dealing damage and slowing the enemy. If Rend kills the enemy, the cool down is reset and you will get 10 mana back. The more spears that get ripped out, the higher the damage.

R – Fate’s Call. Kalista teleports her Oathsworn ally to herself. The Oathsworn is then able to dash to a location, knocking up any enemies hit.

How To Play Kalista

Before you go to lane, use your Black Spear on your Support Ally. This ally will become your oathsworn and together you can dominate your lane.

When starting out in lane, take your E first. This will allow you to start stacking spears on targets. Activate the ability to last hit minions easier and get some mana back.

You are able to throw spears in several targets and then use E to rip them all out, doing damage to every target that had a spear in it.

Take your Q next and use it to damage the enemy from a far. You can also leap a short distance from any direction when you use this ability.

Get your W at level 3 and use it to patrol the Jungle near you. This will alert you to possible ganks from the enemy Jungler.

At level 6 take your R and use it to pull your Oathsworn to you in order to save them, or to engage with. When you pull the Oathsworn to yourself, you cannot make them dash out. The Oathsworn champion chooses where to go and when to go.

During team fights, make sure you stay in the back of the fight. Use your R to have your Support engage the enemy. Use your E and Q to slow targets down. Stack as many spears as you can on a target and then use E to do massive damage.

Tips And Tricks

Kalista is a strong champion that can carry games once you know how to play with. The ability to jump after each auto attack gives her a high mobility rate. Using your E to slow the enemy with your jumps can keep you at a safe distance always.

The key to Kalista is mastering her mobility and when to use your E at the right time.

You can use your Q or an auto attack to jump over a wall.

Make sure you use your W to scout the area around you. You can have up to 2 Sentinels out at any given time.

Buy boots early on in order to make your jumps during auto attacks farther. The distance is based on your boots’ level.

If your Q kills a target, the spear will travel through them. If it hits another target, all the Rend (E) stacks will transfer to that target. Use this to transfer damage to another target.

The passive on W makes your and your Oathsworn apply Soul-Mark when you both auto attack the same target. The target will take bonus damage.

  1. Wow feel so bad for Kalista. She just tried to help and at the end she got stabbed and basically died. However, she was spared by dark magic. Well that dark magic was good for once it sparred her life. Love the art work of the character even though blue is my favorite color. Thank you for the character layout.
