Shieda Kayn was born in Noxus and was taken to be a child soldier in Boram Darkwill’s empire. Creating child soldiers was a way to catch the people of Ionia off guard. Those who hesitated to lift a blade against these children would lose the war.
Barely able to lift the blade he had been given, Kayn was expected to die in battle, just like all the other child soldiers.
Being dropped off in the province of Bahrl, Kayn and a band of child soldiers were left. Facing a disorganized band of locals, most of the children either fled or perished. Kayn, however, showed no fear.
Abandoning the heavy sword for a sickle, Kayn was ready to fight. With a band of Noxian regulars, Kayn slaughtered all who crossed his path.
The Order of Shadow came to this area two days later and witnessed the grisly scene. Zed, the leader, knew this massacre was intended as a message. Noxus would never show mercy.
Zed noticed a child in the mud, threatening him with a sickle. Kayn had survived the battle and Zed saw the fierceness in his eyes. Zed took Kayn and welcomed him into the Order of Shadow in Ionia.
Trainees of the Order usually spent years mastering one weapon. Kayn mastered them all, viewing them as tools, himself as the weapon.
Being trained, Kayn became a silent, deadly assassin. He instilled fear in those fortunate enough to be spared.
As the legend of Kayn grew, his arrogance grew with it. Kayn believed he would even become more powerful than Zed. Seeking out a darkin weapon became Kayn’s final test.
This darkin weapon had been unearthed in Noxus. Not questioning this assignment, Kayn accepted this task. Upon finding this living scythe known as Rhaast, he took it instead of destroying it.
Taking up the weapon sealed Kayn’s corrupted fate. Rhaast has long awaited a perfect host, and Kayn fits the bill. Not easy to take over, Kayn has returned to Ionia, convinced that Zed will name him the new leader of the Order of Shadow.
This champion is best played in the Jungle. Kayn is not too difficult to play at first but does require some practice.
Every champion in League of Legends has a passive and 4 abilities which are used by pressing “Q”, “W”, “E”, and “R” on a keyboard during game play. “R” is considered an ultimate ability and is usually the most powerful ability. Each ability has a cool down, which means you have to wait some time before you can cast it again.
Kayn’s abilities use mana. So you will have to watch your mana bar during the game. If your mana runs out, you will not be able to cast spells until it fills up.
Passive – The Darkin Scythe. Kayn fights for triumph over his darkin weapon. You choose which path he takes, either master the weapon (Shadow Assassin or Blue Kayn), or let it consume him (Darkin or Red Kayn). You cannot choose which path you take until you damage ranged or melee champions during the game.
Taking down melee champions will make Darkin available faster, while ranged champions makes Shadow Assassin available faster. Once one becomes available, it takes 4 minutes for the other to become available. When you are able to choose a path, head to base.
- Shadow Assassin – The first few seconds of Kayn’s attacks will deal bonus damage.
- Darkin – Kayn will heal himself for a percentage of the spell damage he does to enemies.
Q – Reaping Slash. Kayn will dash and then slash dealing damage each time.
- Darkin – The damage is increased and is based on the target’s maximum health.
W – Blade’s Reach. This ability will damage and slow a target in a line.
- Shadow Assassin – Blade’s Reach is extended and creates a living shadow.
- Darkin – This ability will also knock up the enemies hit.
E – Shadow Step. Kayn will be able to walk through terrain.
- Shadow Assassin – The cool down is reduced and Kayn will gain a resistance to slows while moving through terrain as well as increased Movement Speed.
R – Umbral Trespass. This is Kayn’s ultimate ability. He hides in an enemy champion’s body and will deal massive damage when he burst out.
- Shadow Assassin – The range is extended.
- Darkin – This ability will deal more damage and more healing.
How To Play Kayn
When playing Kayn in the Jungle, start with Q and start at the Blue Buff.
At level two, take your E and use it to move over terrain and heal up.
Take your W at level 3. Your Q and W will be the main abilities you use while fighting. When looking to gank, use your E to move through terrain and use your E to slow the enemy and your Q to damage enemy.
Level 6, take your ultimate ability and use it on enemies that are low, or when you are low. During your ultimate ability, you become untargetable and will deal damage at the end of the duration, or when you cancel it.
Clear your jungle camps and look to gank. Around levels 7 and 8 you will be able to choose which path to take: Red Kayn, or Blue Kayn. Red Kayn is the Darkin while Blue Kayn is the Shadow Assassin. Each path has its own advantages.
Tips And Tricks
If you are playing against a lot of ranged champions, it may be better to go Blue Kayn, while going Red Kayn against melee champions is considered better. Whatever path you choose, Kayn will be stronger.
When using your Q against enemies, try to pass through them. This will ensure they take damage from both your dash and slash.
Going through terrain with E allows you to sneak up on your enemies. Use this to your advantage. You can also use your other abilities while moving through the terrain.
You can only use your R on enemies that you have damaged.
If you need to dash over a wall but your E is down, you can use your Q to dash over thin walls.
Red Kayn Vs. Blue Kayn
The main question is which path should you take when playing Kayn.
It really depends on who you are fighting against. Red Kayn is good against melee champions and tanky champions. Blue Kayn is good against ranged champions and champions that do not have a lot of health.
If you need a lot of healing, Blue Kayn is better. If you need more damage, Red Kayn is better.
You are not able to choose which path to take at the beginning of the game. Around level 7 or 8 is when you will be able to choose. Determine how the game is going and choose Red Kayn or Blue Kayn when it is time.
